He obtained his Masters of Social Work from Louisiana State University, and during that time he began extensive research into the dilemmas of Step Family Systems and completed his comprehensives on that subject. From there Mr. Mills went to work at The Family Tree Education and Counseling Center where he was able to put his skills into the service of helping others. He worked extensively with families and children assisting them in coping with a wide range of issues such as divorce, step family conflict, ADD and ADHD, depression, oppositional defiant children, and anger management. Additionally he worked with the judicial system to set up and asses children for violence prevention programs and designed and led group therapy for couples planning remarriage. His work also included working with individuals coping with an array of problems such as substance abuse and dependence, stress management, grief and loss, work place conflict and abuse.
Mr. Mills continued his career involved in numerous other capacities. Serving as clinical program director for a Mental Health Rehabilitation program, and as a clinical therapist in psychiatric facilities and partial hospital programs. In these settings Mr. Mills learned about the difficulties and challenges faced by individuals and families suffering with chronic mental illness. He has completed several hundred hours of continuing education with focus on helping those suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, chronic pain, post traumatic stress disorder.
Over the years Mr. Mills has become proficient in the use of several kinds of therapies including Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive/Behavior Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, and Jungian Focused psychotherapy and Imago Therapy. In his private practice he uses the therapy model best suited for the client. He continues to work extensively helping couples work out the maze of issues that complicate relationship, and spends a great deal of time assisting individual clients in coming to terms with depression, anxiety, work place and life stress, and anger management.
Part of his core philosophy has been a commitment to research and practical application of different treatment modalities as well as a deep thirst to understand the psychological, social, cultural, and environmental forces that shape us as human beings.
